The Community Christmas Candlelight Service is a night of wonder and worship to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. This year marks the tenth anniversary of this one-night event and a BIG donation will be collected to benefit three essential Longview ministries: Asbury House, Buckner Children & Family Services, and HiWay 80 Rescue Mission. Join us for an evening of generosity, carols, hot cocoa, and good cheer.
The Community Christmas Candlelight Service is held annually by Grace Crossing United Methodist Church to offer the community, especially those worshippers who do not have a regular church home or might be travelling over the holidays, a chance to celebrate the joy of Christmas.
All ages are invited to this family-friendly event. During the service, young and old will sing Christmas carols, hear the Good News proclaimed through the reading of God’s word and celebrate the Lord’s Supper together as a community. The final act of worship is the lighting of candles to signify the way Christ’s light is shared with us all.
The first annual Community Christmas Candlelight Service was also the third worship service for Grace Crossing United Methodist Church. Since that first service a few days before Christmas in 2008, the service has grown from less than one hundred people in attendance to more than 300 last year. The vision, however, remains the same: to offer the community, especially those worshippers who do not have a regular church home or might be traveling over the holidays, a chance to celebrate the joy of Christmas.
This service has become Grace Crossing’s signature event for the community and is a highlight of the year. Numerous teams of dedicated volunteers begin working months in advance to ensure a special and meaningful event.
We are a giving people because we serve a giving God. God has given us more than we can ever imagine. As we give of our resources, we grow a little more into the person God created us to be.
Every year we have a special Christmas offering as part of our Community Christmas Candlelight Service. This year our offering will support three worthy causes: Asbury House Child Enrichment Center, Water for Life and UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).
